Harper's Story

Last week, one-year-old Angus needed our help. He was found abandoned in a crate on the side of the road in zip code 21228. The sun was beating down on his poor, frail body. He was lethargic, weak and severely dehydrated, and his legs were covered in urine and feces. Due to his critical state, our team opted to send Angus directly to a partner Franky Fund veterinary clinic for IV fluid therapy, bloodwork and round-the-clock care.

Now, we're delighted to share that Angus is doing well! He may have found his forever home with a team member who has helped to take care of him. A big "thank you" to the team at Eastern Animal Hospital for diligently caring for Angus and seeing him through his hardest days.

Angus has also made a very special friend while he's been treated at the hospital: a kitty named Harper. A veterinary technician named Cierra reached out to us with this touching story...

"Hi there! I wanted to reach out and send you some cute pictures of Angus and my cat, Harper. Harper was hospitalized in critical condition at Eastern Animal Hospital, where my wife is a current employee. Harper and Angus were ICU roommates, both fighting uphill battles and giving it their all.

"One thing about Harper…she STRONGLY dislikes dogs. However, when she had enough strength to walk around ICU, she strolled up to Angus’ kennel where he quietly greeted her with his tail wagging happily. As she sniffed through the space in the cage, he slipped he a kiss on the nose…and I’m still astonished by her reaction. She purred! She went back into her own cage, laid down, and started making biscuits while looking over at Angus.

"My reason for reaching out is to express the love and gratitude I feel for not only BARCS but for this sweet soul who didn’t deserve the hand he was dealt. Harper currently has a fundraiser, and although it hasn’t produced enough to cover her own bills, if it were to do so and have extra remaining, my wife and I would like to extend the remainder as a donation to either Angus’ care or towards the Franky Fund/needs of BARCS. In my heart, I feel some of the love Angus showed Harper played a tiny role in getting her on the path to feeling better.

"Thank you for all you have done in the past, are currently doing, and continue to do on behalf of all animals."
