Operation Paws Out of Puddles

This spring, BARCS found ourselves in a pickle. Our brand new doggie play yards had become unusable—and even dangerous—in just a few short months. Whenever it would rain or snow, the area would flood, leaving behind a pool of water, an ice skating rink or deep, quicksand-like mud. It wasn’t safe for our shelter pups, training team or volunteers.

Every day that our play yard was out of commission, our dogs missed the opportunity to play, socialize and, frankly, forget that they are “shelter dogs” for a few hours. We knew that something had to be done.

At the old shelter, two amazing sister companies, BBR Basement Waterproofing and B&B's Vape Cafe, saved us from a similar situation. We wanted their opinion and guidance. We weren’t expecting free work again, just an expert to help us develop a plan.

Owner Mike Becker responded within minutes to our email, saying he’d be at the shelter the next morning. What we didn’t know was that Mike had already made up his mind—he was donating all of the materials and labor to BARCS again! Three days later, he squeezed us into his schedule and completed the project alongside his kind crew.

BBR deemed this rescue mission "Operation Paws Out of Puddles" and insisted that we do nothing in return. We couldn’t be more thankful to have the love and support of incredible, humble and generous local businesses like BBR. Today, our dogs can resume zoomies, picking at the grass, slobbering all over each other and just bein’ dogs because of our good friends.

Thank you from the bottom of our paw-print stained hearts for everything!
