Volunteer Open House
*COVID-19 Operational Update* To ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors while meeting the needs of the animals that depend on us, temporary modifications have been made to various department operations until further notice. At this time we are not scheduling any new open house dates. Right now we are operating with essential animal care staff and are not open for existing or new volunteers. We miss all of our volunteers and look forward to seeing you again in the future.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with BARCS and joining our family of animal lovers, advocates and amazing individuals who care about our community. We can't wait to meet you!
To get started, simply attend one of our volunteer open house dates on Saturday mornings or Thursday evenings at our shelter (2490 Giles Road, Baltimore, MD 21225). The open house starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays and 6 p.m. on Thursdays and begins with a presentation all about our organization. Prospective volunteers are then given a tour of our facility, where you will meet our staff and fellow volunteers, see the animals we serve and have the opportunity to ask lots of questions! After the tour, we provide takeaway documents about all the areas and ways you can help as well as next steps.
You don't need to register; just show up—and maybe bring a friend! The open house usually lasts about two hours but may run over depending on questions and attendance.
*If you are hoping to fulfill service hours please contact us prior to attending an open house.
