Elyria Goes Home

Lydia went home...and we can't thank you all enough for making this miracle possible. On Thursday, we asked for your help in raising money for Lydia's emergency facial and jaw reconstruction surgery after being hit by a car. Her surgery was that very same day and was a success. She was released from the hospital over the weekend. Typically, our medical animals recover in foster homes, but Lydia had a much better option...to return directly to her long lost family.

If you missed the original post, Lydia came into the care of BARCS after being hit by a car. She was scanned for a microchip at the ER, which is where we learned that she had been missing from her family home for two years. Lydia was the beloved dog of owner Johnathan C., who tragically passed away in 2018. After he passed, his mom Virginia opened her home to his three dogs. A year later, Lydia got lost and they have been searching ever since.

Thank you to everyone who donated and shared this story. Lydia is now safe at home with Virginia, her other son and doggy sister Scarlett, who has also been sadly missing her best friend all of these years. It is because of your generous support that we were able to save Lydia so that she could be the best, unexpected gift to her family this holiday season. ❤

(You may notice in the video that her family calls her Elyria, which is her forever-home name! When Animal Control picked her up they named her Butter Bee on their ticket. When her microchip was discovered, her former name in BARCS' system was Lydia and we always use shelter names in our public communications. However, the beautiful name her late dad gave her was Elyria. We bet she never thought she would hear her actual name again.)
