Ivy the Unicorn Dog

Believe it or not, sweet Ivy is part unicorn. It’s an undeniable fact that everyone that meets her falls in love with her. Though she is super sweet, her past was not as kind to her.

Ivy was found by a caring Baltimore resident who noted that she was very friendly… but also fearful of deep male voices. Her mammary glands hung low, which suggested that she had recently had and weaned puppies. She was sweet but scared in our care, unsure of all of the strange hands reaching to comfort and examine her.

Over time, Ivy has shown us all she’s an optimist. Regardless of her past, she’s only focused on today, enjoying life and lifting the spirits of everyone she meets. Her sunny disposition made her the perfect candidate for The Ronnie Stanley Foundation—to go through rigorous training to be a therapeutic companion for her new mom and best friend, Brittany.

Brittany, too, has had to overcome many challenges in life; she is now dedicated to helping women recover from abusive and toxic relationships. She works as a life coach to help women understand why those relationships happened, how to avoid them going forward and how to help them build confidence in themselves and discover their true self worth.

Together, Brittany and Ivy will use their combined resilience and positivity to help even more women learn how to trust and find happiness with themselves and others. Now, they will always be there for each other… and for other women as well.

Ivy now has two older doggy siblings, Gertie and Chewnie, both rescues, as well as a rescue kitty sibling. We are so happy for our amazing Ivy and cannot wait to see all the amazing things life has in store for her.

The Ronnie Stanley Foundation was created to improve the quality of life for rescue dogs and individuals in need. The Foundation trains and cultivates the therapeutic properties of rescue dogs to be matched with individuals who have faced various life challenges such as illness, emotional trauma and other hardships. These matches are even more meaningful because rescue dogs are placed in their forever homes.

We are so grateful to Ronnie for creating this wonderful program that supports the human-animal bond and makes it accessible to special families in our community. In addition, this program is proving that shelter animals, even those with heartbreaking histories, can hold these esteemed service roles.
