Frankie's Journey to Peace

My senior cat, Frankie, has undoubtedly changed my life for the better.

I met Frankie in May 2019 when I was at BARCS to volunteer and walk dogs. The same day that I met him, I fell in love, and I welcomed him home.

Frankie had already been at the shelter for several months at that point. When he first arrived, the BARCS veterinary team noticed he was missing most of the fur on his face and had open wounds all over his body, likely from scratching himself. He also had entropion, a painful disorder where the eyelid turns inward which requires surgery to fix, and severe allergies that require special medication and prescription food.

Frustrated little Frankie was trapped in a vicious cycle: everything made him itch, but he would scratch too much and too hard, so he would accidentally hurt himself.

I knew a special case like Frankie would require some trial and error, but the team at BARCS was dedicated to finding the right medical treatment plan for him.

It’s taken a few months to get Frankie on the long road to recovery. These days, he lives a quiet life in Northeastern Pennsylvania alongside his cat brother, Scout; dog brother, Prince; and his two humans. Once cautious of humans, Frankie is now King of Snuggles and absolutely loves spending time around people. He gives kisses and even enjoys being carried like a baby!

Frankie has taught me how to be patient and how to NEVER stop advocating for the best care possible. I also witnessed the pure selflessness of animal lovers who donated more than $1,000 to Frankie's continued care. When I adopted Frankie, I promised him two things: I would figure out what he was allergic to and he would never have to wear his cone again. I've kept both of those promises and will make one more: I promise to love him for the rest of his life and beyond.

Thank you, BARCS, for letting me care for Frankie. I'm so grateful for the care you gave him before he was mine and the care you continue to give to animals like him!

Sincerely,
Taryn and Frankie
