Long Lost (Doggy) Siblings

In 2016, Helen G. was walking through the kennels at BARCS, searching carefully for a new best friend. When she was growing up, her family only ever owned cats—Helen had resolved that, as soon as she was on her own, she would adopt a dog. She stopped when she saw Ranger.

Helen tells us, “I thought he was hilarious because he was just a scruffy little guy with a tough name. When I met him, Ranger jumped right up on my lap, and that is when I knew he was the one.”

Over the years, Ranger and Helen have shared many adventures together. Recently, Helen was curious what different kinds of breeds Ranger may be. She ordered a DNA kit, and when she got the results, she was in for a shock... Ranger has a sister!

Ranger’s sister is named Shags, and, in a twist of fate, Shags was adopted from BARCS nearly 10 years ago! Since they are both local to Baltimore, they decided to meet up at a local park.

Their reunion was so sweet! We’re hoping Ranger and Shags have lots more fun playdates in the future.
